FEW comedians are more loved than Les Dawson and 20 years on from his passing, a new show inspired by his work is coming to the Playhouse.

Northern housewives Cissie Braithwaite and Ada Shufflebotham have their own comedy stage show, 40 years after being created by Dawson and actor Roy Barraclough.

The pair’s thirst for gossip and stoicism made them a hit with the nation in the 1970s and 1980s.

Anyone who fell in love with them all those years ago can do so all over again, while younger members of the audience can have a chance to discover what made them such a magical double-act.

Cissie and Ada An Hysterical Rectomy will see two former Coronation Street stars in Steven Arnold and Eric Potts, who played Ashley and Diggory respectively, appear.

Spitting Image comedian Steve Nallon and actress Natasha Magigi also star in the Broadway Theatre and Cutting The Strings production.

Cissie and Ada will be at the Weston theatre on September 19.

It starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £14-16, are available from the box office on 01934 645544 or online at* The Mercury has teamed up with the Playhouse to offer three lucky winners the chance to win a pair of tickets.
