ONE of the most popular classical ballets will be performed at The Playhouse in Weston-super-Mare next month.

The world-renowned Moscow Ballet La Classique will bring Swan Lake to life, danced to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s timeless score.

Swan Lake is a favourite among both audiences and dancers, featuring one of the most challenging roles in ballet, with the dual performance of Odette and Odile.

The ballet tells the story of Princess Odette, turned into a swan by day by an evil sorcerer called Von Rothbart.

Prince Siegfried falls in love with her, and they hope to break the spell.

But Von Rothbart tricks the prince with Odile, who resembles Odette so closely, she is easily mistaken for the other.

The Moscow Ballet La Classique was founded in 1990, and is made up of dancers from some of the leading theatres in the world, including the Bolshoi.

The Bolshoi Ballet itself is based in Moscow, and was the first to perform Swan Lake in Russia in 1877.

Swan Lake will be performed at The Playhouse on November 12 at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £25 for adults, £23 for concessions and £17.50 for children, are available from the box office by calling 01934 645544.
