THE weekend is calling at last and it is time to sit back and relax or head down to an event near you…


* CONGRESBURY – A book, DVD, jigsaw and games sale will take place at the war memorial hall in High Street from 9am-1pm.

* BREAN – The Leisure Park is hosting the 16th K&R Mitsubishi Stages Rally this weekend with more than 90 competitors taking part. Admission is £5 for both today and tomorrow for over-12s. Gates open at 8.30am ahead of a 10am start.

* CHEDDAR – Ornithologists will be out in force for a RSPB walk around the reservoir at 10am. For more details call 01934 842717.

* WESTON – Clarence Park Baptist Church in Walliscote Road will hold a table-top sale from 10am-4pm today. All-day breakfasts will be on sale as well as face-painting and other children’s activities. Proceeds will go to the church.

* CROSS – The memorial hall in Webbington Road will host a jumble sale at 10am. Entry costs 30p with proceeds going to Compton Bishop church fabric fund.

* WINSCOMBE – The community centre in Sandford Road will hold a jumble sale at 2pm. Donations can be made from 9.30am.

* SHIPHAM – Time for a good old knees up at the village hall in New Road as Cheddar Valley lions Club hold a barn dance tonight. The entertainment starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £12, are available on 01934 842317. Food is included.

* REDHILL – Skittles will be tumbling (hopefully) tonight at the village hall in Church Road. The fun gets underway at 8pm.


* YATTON – The Strawberry line metric marathon gets underway at 9.30am tomorrow morning. Good luck to everyone involved.
